Powieść pod tytułem „Stulecie Winnych. Ci, którzy przeżyli” autorstwa Ałbeny Grabowskiej jest pierwszą częścią z cyklu opowiadań o polskiej rodzinie Winnych – obejmuje wydarzenia
od 1918 do 1939 roku.
Drugi tom powieści nosi nazwę „Ci, którzy walczyli”, akcja rozgrywa się w czasie II wojny światowej i w powojennej rzeczywistości, są to lata 1942 – 1968.
Ostatnia, trzecia część sagi to „Stulecie Winnych. Ci, którzy wierzyli” – zaczyna się w 1971 roku i trwa do czasów współczesnych.
Tom I
Akcja rozpoczyna się z chwilą wybuchu I wojny światowej i kończy sto lat później. Książka stanowi idealną propozycję dla osób, które uwielbiają historię oraz pasjonują się poznawaniem losów Polski. W tym czasie na świat przychodzą bliźniaczki: Anna i Maria. Ich matka umiera podczas porodu, a ojciec nowonarodzonych dziewczynek opłakuje śmierć ukochanej żony. Niestety to nie koniec nieszczęśliwych wydarzeń. Długie lata I wojny światowej oraz epidemia grypy hiszpanki boleśnie dotykają całą rodzinę. Bohaterowie rzadko mogą pozwolić sobie na uśmiech. Bliźniaczki zaś rosną i okazują się być niezwykłymi osobami, które są dla wszystkich jedynym źródłem radości.
Tom II
Wybucha II wojna światowa.
Na świat ponownie przychodzą bliźniaczki, które są kolejnym pokoleniem w rodzinie. Ród Winnych stawia czoła brutalnej, okupacyjnej rzeczywistości, podobnie jak setki tysięcy innych polskich rodzin. Jedni walczą z bronią w ręku, inni próbują przetrwać, zapewnić byt swoim bliskim. Wszyscy boją się nagłej śmierci i wywózki do jednego z nazistowskich obozów koncentracyjnych. Ta część sagi przenosi nas do czasów pełnych okrucieństwa, gdzie próbowano odebrać godność człowiekowi, poniżyć go i zniszczyć. Następnie przychodzi tak zwane wyzwolenie, wraz z nim inwigilacja i represje ze strony kolejnej, tym razem komunistycznej władzy.
Tom III
Jest rok 1971, Basia rodzi dwie piękne dziewczynki, również bliźniaczki – Julie oraz Urszule. Dziewczynki muszą dorastać w trudnych czasach, ale niewątpliwie ciekawych. Lata ukazane w tym tomie przedstawiają kryzys gospodarczy a także erę Gierka. Niedosyt, kilometrowe kolejki, Peweksy, ciągły brak towaru to czasy represji i stanu wojennego. Akcja z Brwinowa przenosi się do Pruszkowa, gdzie możemy śledzić narodziny tamtejszej mafii.
Ałbena Grabowska w swojej trylogii ukazała bardzo ciekawą, wielopokoleniową historię rodziny Winnych. Ich losy od samego początku są trudne i skomplikowane. Bohaterowie jednak nie poddają się, uczą czytelników jak czerpać radość z małych rzeczy. Wojny to czas, którego nikt nie chciałby przeżyć, niestety miały one miejsce i trzeba było robić wszystko aby przetrwać. Nieraz ciężko jest sobie wyobrazić to co działo się w przeszłości, jak okrutne rzeczy wydarzyły się w historii.
Ród Winnych to zwykli, prości ludzie, którzy borykają się z różnymi problemami. Ałbena Grabowska w swojej niezwykłej trylogii ukazała czytelnikom życie zwyczajnej wiejskiej rodziny zanurzone w nurcie trudnej i często bardzo brutalnej historycznej zawieruchy. Mowa tutaj nie tylko o samych wojnach, lecz także wszelkiego rodzaju przemianach zachodzących na przestrzeni opisanych stu lat. Przyziemność, codzienne zmagania i prostota bycia bohaterów powieści sprawia, że czytelnicy niezwykle łatwo utożsamiają się z nimi. Każdy z nas w zależności od swojego wieku może znaleźć tu postać, która będzie mu szczególnie bliska, z którą nawiąże wyjątkową więź. Autorka powieści pokazuje nam jaką potężną moc ma rodzina. W opisanej rodzinie Winnych szczególnie niezwykła jest niezłomność ducha, wewnętrzna siła i odwaga.
Oprócz fikcyjnych bohaterów na stronach książki poznajemy także autentyczne postaci: Stanisława Lilpopa, Tadeusza Wierusz-Kowalskiego jak również Jarosława Iwaszkiewicza.
Historia odbija się echem na każdym bohaterze i nadaje ich losom dany kierunek. Czytając opowieść możemy napotkać w niej radosne uniesienia i bolesne cierpienia serc. Nadzieja, wiara i odwaga przeplatają się z poczuciem klęski, krzywdy i bezsilności. Moim zdaniem to piękna trylogia, wdzięczna, wzruszająca, wprowadzająca w refleksyjny nastrój. Mocno satysfakcjonująca lektura, która długo pozostaje w sercu czytelnika.
W powieści każdy z bohaterów ma do opowiedzenia swoją własną, niezwykłą historię, odrębną
i indywidualną, a jednocześnie tak bardzo podobną do tych które znamy. Ten uniwersalny przekaz można odnieść do własnego życia oraz życia naszych bliskich. W powieści zmieniają się niektóre warunki, pokolenia, ale pewne wartości zawsze pozostają stałe. Trudno wskazać tutaj ulubioną postać, sympatią obdarzamy wszystkich członków rodziny, dostrzegamy ich wady i zalety. Bohaterowie nie są oczywiści, jednoznaczni i jednowymiarowi, wręcz przeciwnie. Postacie są barwne, sprzeczne i niepodważalnie interesujące.
Jest to bogata w intrygujące wydarzenia saga rodzinna. Polecam ją każdemu kto szuka szczerej, wartościowej i pouczającej lektury. Dynamiczna akcja, ciekawa fabuła, wielowątkowość, tło historyczne i wyraziści bohaterowie – to wszystko sprawia, że od tej sagi nie da się oderwać.
Autorka nieustannie trzyma nas w napięciu, a trylogia jest dla nas swoistą podróżą w czasie.
Po przeczytaniu jednego tomu nie sposób nie sięgnąć po kolejne. Gorąco zachęcam do sięgnięcia po tę lekturę. Jest ona niezwykle emocjonującą, pełna wzruszeń, tragedii, nadziei, miłości i prawdy. Przypomina nam o tym co tak naprawdę liczy się w życiu, przypomina by cenić i dbać o to co mamy. Uświadamia nam jak ważna jest rodzina i obrazuje ile jesteśmy w stanie pokonać, przetrwać dzięki niej.

The novel entitled “The Century of the Winni. Those Who Survived” by Ałbena Grabowska is the first part of a series of stories about the Polish Winni family – it covers events from 1918 to 1939.
The second volume of the novel is called “Those who fought”, the action takes place during
World War II and in the post-war reality, these are the years 1942 – 1968.
The last, third part of the saga is called “The Century of the Winni. Those Who Believed” – begins in 1971 and continues to the present day.
Volume I
The action begins with the outbreak of World War I and ends one hundred years later. The book is an deal proposition for people who love history and are passionate about learning about the fate of Poland. At that time, twins Anna and Maria are born. Their mother dies during childbirth, and the irls’ father mourns the death of his beloved wife. Unfortunately, this is not the end of ad events. The long years of World War I and the Spanish flu epidemic painfully affect the whole family. The protagonists can rarely afford to smile. The twins, on the other hand, grow and urn out to be extraordinary people who are the only source of joy for everyone.
Volume II
World War II breaks out. The twins are born again, they are the next generation in the family. The inni family faces the rutal reality of the occupation, just like hundreds of thousands of other Polish families. Some fight with guns in their hands, others try to survive, to provide for their loved ones. They all fear sudden death and deportation to one of the Nazi concentration camps. This part of the saga takes us back to the cruel times, when attempts were made to deprive people of their dignity, humiliate and destroy them. Then comes the so-called liberation and with it surveillance and repression by another, this time communist, power.
Volume III
It is 1971, Basia gives birth to two beautiful girls, also twins – Julie and Urszula. The girls have to gow up in difficult times, but undoubtedly interesting. The years depicted in this volume show the economic crisis and the era of Gierek. Shortages, mile-long queues, Pewex shops, constant lack of goods – these are the times of repression and martial law. The action moves from Brwinów to Pruszków, where we can follow the birth of the local mafia.
In her trilogy, Ałbena Grabowska has presented a very interesting, multi-generational story of the Winny family. Their lives are difficult and complicated from the very beginning. However, the characters do not give up, they teach the readers how to draw joy from small things. Wars are a time no one would like to live through, unfortunately they took place and you had to do everything you could to survive. Sometimes it is hard to imagine what happened in the past, how cruel things have happend in history.
The Winni Family are ordinary, simple people who struggle with various problems. Ałbena Grabowska in her unusual trilogy, showed readers the life of an ordinary rural family immersed In the current of a difficult and often very brutal historical turmoil. We are talking here not only about the wars themselves, but also about all sorts of changes occurring over the course of the described hundred years. The down-to-earth, everyday struggles and simplicity of being of the characters in the novel make it is very easy for the readers to identify with them. Each of us, depending on his age, can find here a character who will be particularly close to him, with whom he will establish a special bond. The author of the novel shows us what a powerful family is.
In the described Winni family, the indomitable spirit, inner strength and courage are particularly remarkable.
In addition to the fictional characters on the pages of the book, we also meet authentic figures: Stanisław Lilpop, Tadeusz Wierusz-Kowalski as well as Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz.
History echoes on each character and gives their fates a direction. While reading the story we can encounter joyful raptures and painful heartaches. Hope, faith and courage are intertwined with a sense of defeat, hurt and helplessness. In my opinion, this is a beautiful trilogy, graceful, touching, putting you in a reflective mood. A powerfully satisfying read that stays in the reader’s heart for
a long time.
In the novel, each of the characters has his own extraordinary story to tell, separate and individual, and yet so similar to those we know. This universal message can be applied to our own lives and the lives of our loved ones. In the novel, some conditions and generations change, but some values always remain constant. It is difficult to identify a favourite character here, we sympathise with all members of the family, we see their pros and cons. The characters are not obvious, unambiguous and one-dimensional, on the contrary. The characters are colourful, contradictory and undeniably interesting.
This is a family saga rich in intriguing events. I recommend it to anyone looking for a sincere, valuable and informative read. Dynamic plot, interesting storyline, multithreading, historical background and expressive characters – all this makes this saga impossible to tear yourself away from.
The author constantly keeps us in suspense, and the trilogy is a kind of time travel for us.
After reading one volume it is impossible not to reach for the next. I strongly encourage you to reach for this reading. It is extremely exciting, full of emotions, tragedy, hope, love and truth. It reminds us of what really matters in life, reminds us to value and care for what we have. It makes us realise how important family is and illustrates how much we are able to overcome and survive thanks to it.
